Max News 10-18-04Very icy roads and sidewalks this Monday, October 18 th, caused our own Hair Magic lady, Karen Polsfut, to be hospitalized with a broken wrist. Surgery had to be performed. Get well soon, Karen! Several vehicles had to be pulled from the ditches too. Our Savior’s Lutheran members would like to give a special thanks to all the volunteer help for their dinner last Sunday and to the Praise Band for their beautiful musical entertainment. Special thanks to the McLean County Chapter of Thrivent for their contribution. They served at least 520 people and reported that at least eight states were represented! The Rushville-New Ota Farmers Union will hold their fall meeting on Friday, October 22 nd, 2004 at 7:30 at the home of Lila Fannik in Max. Election of officers and delegates for the State Farmers Union Convention held in Fargo on December 3 and 4 will be the business of the meeting. All are welcome. Sunday, November 14 th, from 9:30 until 2:30 is the Max Library’s annual Flea market, Craft and Vendor Fair. Set up will be Saturday evening and Sunday morning. If you would like a table, please contact the Library. Lunch and treats will be served by Max LYO (Lutheran Youth Organization). Vendors so far include Avon, Mary Kay, Tastefully Simple, Creative Memories, Stanley products, Centennial Promotional products, Max Pax 4-H Club and many flea market vendors. Tables are $8.00 each. The Library will be having their bake sale during this time too and need a lot of donated baked goods. On Saturday, Lorna Sambor, Lila Fannik, and Pam Arnold attended the 70 th wedding anniversary of Raymond and Ruby Newman at the Assembly of God Church in Minot. Library Week is November 14 – 19. Books will be available for purchase from the American Book Display. Monday evening, November 15 th, at 7:00 Terri Voeller from Lowes will be here. Tuesday, November 16 th at 7:00 will be scrap booking with Rita Skraba. Either bring your own supplies or purchase from Rita for $5.00 and receive a free gift. Note this date, Tuesday November 16 th, not the 17 th, as I incorrectly put in last week’s news! On Thursday evening, November 18 th, also at 7:00, Rena Rustad will again be teaching us about stamping. That same Thursday, November 18 t., at 10:30 will be Preschool Story Hour at the Library. December’s Story Hour will be held on the 2 nd at 10:30. Approximately two dozen people attended this evening’s Centennial Planning Meeting. Several committees gave reports on their progress. A schedule of events was talked about but more will be decided at the November 15 th, meeting. The History Committee has the guidelines available for you, to help you write up your family and/or business history. A note of importance: If you do not want your history that is presently written up in the gold book – Golden Jubilee 1906-1956 – to be written up again in this Centennial book, you need to notify Kathy Huettl at wkjh@restel.net or at P.O. Box 74; Douglas, ND 58735. The Centennial Kick-Off Fundraiser tickets will available soon. This Fundraiser will be held November 27 th. The Promotions Committee reported there are denim shirts on display at eight businesses in Max. They may be ordered at these businesses, with next day delivery in the Max area. The price is $29.95. If you want to have one sent to you or anyone else, the committee is charging $5.75 for shipping and handling. Phone 679-2563. This coming Monday, at 3:45 Good News Club will be held at the Max Baptist Church. Thursday, October 28 th, from 10:30 to 11:30 is the Library’s Preschool Halloween Party. Please RSVP by October 22 nd, this Friday, by calling the Library at 679-2263 or 679-2487. This Sunday, October 24 th, the Max Catholic Church will be having Mass at 10:30 to better accommodate the Fall Festival taking place from 11:30 until 1:30. This festival will consist of a lunch of homemade soup and sandwiches, along with the selling of home baked goods. Drawings will also be held. The quilt is on display at the bank in Max. Then at the end of the week, Saturday, October 30 th, is Civic Club’s Annual Steak Fry. Tickets are $15.00 and available at any Max business.
