Max News 5-3-04 My apologies to Elaine Kohler for leaving out Lena Volechenko’s name as one of the girls helping at Elaine’s. Her son, Joel and his wife Lisa and their children also came to help. Marla Eliason, medical missionary to Honduras, who spoke at the Civic Center several years ago, is again over in Honduras. Several area people have been sewing simple baby blankets for Marla to take with her, as the babies there are sent home wrapped in newspaper! In a recent visit with her, she tells me she still needs blankets and also needs layettes for the babies. They go home with no clothes so they would like to have the little one-piece undergarment for the infant – called Onesies. These need not be new and may be any size as small children also go home with no clothes. Also little sweaters, caps, and booties. Marla will be going over again in July. If anyone has any of these items or find any at garage sales, or would even like to make any of these items, please know they will be very appreciated. Marla does not need pill bottles or film canisters anymore. This Saturday, May 8th., is “Older Americans Day” at the Max Senior Center. Kyle’s Greenhouse from Garrison will be there from 10 – 4. There will be free pie and coffee and a bake sale going on, during those hours, too. Volunteer awards will be presented at 2:00 and their first annual raffle drawing will be held at 3:00. This Friday evening at 7:30 the Grand March for the Max School Jr/Sr. prom will be held at the school. Monday, May 10th., the school’s Spring Concert will be held at 7:30 P.M. There will not be the regular Civic Club meeting that evening because of the many that will be attending the concert. The following Monday, May 17th., at 7:00, Civic Club will meet. The Max High School Class of 2004 will have their graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 23, at 2:00. “To be able to look upon one’s past life with satisfaction is to live twice.” Marcus Valerius Martial
