Max News 5-10-04
Ed and Sally Kabanuck’s granddaughter, Sarah Joy Herema, recently appeared in the Los Angeles Music Center, traveling with the opera “La Boheme”, an Italian opera. Sarah has the lead in it. It goes to Chicago next. Sarah is 25 years old and the daughter of Dean Kabanuck. This past Saturday, despite the wind, the Max Senior Center hosted several events, inside and outside. Kyle’s Greenhouse from Garrison was set up outside with many beautiful flowers, vegetable plants, and gardening seeds. Inside the Senior Center the large crowd enjoyed free pie and coffee. The pies were baked by the Senior Citizens. There was a special Volunteer Award given to Max Stolt, who delivers all the Meals on Wheels to the shut-ins in Max, and does other volunteer work for the Center. Every year the Meals Program gives an award out to their outstanding volunteer in each community. The Max Senior Center’s first annual raffle was a huge success with several non-residents winning. A good sign that the raffle tickets are available to anyone, not just to Max residents. Judy Miller of Garrison won the Victorian lamp, with a gorgeous crocheted lampshade, made by P.J. Trondson. Connie Sambor of Plymouth, MN. won the Post Office Box bank, handcrafted by Max Stolt. Connie is Lorna Sambor’s daughter. Charles Shumaker of Bismarck won the Vanna White pattern afghan made by Ethel Boettcher. Charles is Ella Whiting’s son-in-law. Darlene Tomlinson of Las Vegas, Nevada won the white ripple afghan made by Viola Gullickson. Darlene also won the first prize given, a Travel Quillo. Darlene is Vi and Dick Kostenko’s daughter. Ethel Boettcher won the quilt made by P.J. Trondson. Donna Kastner of Douglas won the second Travel Quillo given away. Donna is Max Stolt’s daughter. Kyle’s Greenhouse had a really good day in Max. They had a nice crowd viewing and purchasing their plants all day long. The Max Senior Citizens would like to thank everyone for coming, for their donations and support. They hope you enjoyed the free pie and coffee and bake sale. Thank you everyone! And we would like to thank the Senior Citizens for providing such a wonderful event for the community of Max. The Max Senior Citizens will be having their monthly meeting tomorrow, May 14th., at 2:00 at the Center. Don’t forget to come to the Civic Club meeting this coming Monday, May 17th., at 7 P.M. Max Public School will have their Kindergarten Graduation Wednesday, May 19th., at 10 A.M. at the school.
