Max News 6-7-04 Dr. Darren and Tonya Mack of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota are the proud parents of a baby boy born May 24, 2004. He weighed in at 6#11oz. and has been named Joshua Garold. Joshua joins a sister, Erin Marie, at home. Grandparents Dwight and DeeOn Mack went to Detroit Lakes for a few days to meet their new Grandson. Congratulations to all the Grandparents, parents, and big sister, Erin! Visitors at the Lila Fannik home were Ardeline Reuter of Great Falls, Montana, Lorraine and Kenneth Nelson of Douglas, and Phyllis and Hilbert Narum also of Douglas. Ardeline and Lila were friends when they both attended Douglas High School. Visitors at the Candace and Raymond Iverson home this week-end were Mandy Iverson from Fargo; Bernice Iverson and Arlette and Preston; and Lonn’s new wife, Jenny, from Bismarck. Lonn is in Hawaii for Reserve Army Camp for three weeks. Mel and Arlene Opstad of Big Lake, Minnesota took Lorna Sambor, Marge Scurlock, and Lila Fannik to The Wrangler Café for dinner. All of these attended Mel’s Aunt Borgy Opstad’s 98 th. birthday on May 29 th., at Manor Care. Several relatives and friends from the Benedict, Max, Ryder, and Minot areas attended the funeral of Claude Streeper last Wednesday, June 2 nd, in Bismarck. Sunday dinner guests with Lila Fannik were Dan Flath, Linda Feldner, Lorna Sambor, and Marge Scurlock. John and Alice Dvirnak from Killdeer came on Thursday evening to Lila Fannik’s. They had doctor appointments and John went to Camp Bentley at Drake to attend Men’s Bible Camp. Alice spent the week-end with Lila Fannik, Ed. and LaVonne Fannik. Today, Thursday, June 10 th, the Max Public Library is having their Summer Reading Program on What They Wore, Took, and Ate. Next Thursday, June 17 th, will be a special program with a trunk presentation by the Knife River Indian Villages. They will have many interesting items to see! Programs take place from 2:00-5:00. The first swimming session is being held June 14–18 th. We still have a few open spots for this session if you would like to get your child/children enrolled. Cost is $28.00 if you are not a Max Civic Club member and $14.00 if you are a member. Please send payment with your child on Monday. Checks are to be made out to the YMCA. We will plan to leave at 12:15 sharp on Monday, June 14, from the school. The bus will be returning around 3:00. We are also in need of chaperones. If you would be willing to ride along and help out, please call Lynae at 679-2505. Older siblings make good chaperones as well! Max Civic Club will be meeting Monday, June 17 th, at 7 P.M. You may become a member at any time. Dues for the year are $20.00 for individuals; $30.00 for a couple; and $50.00 for a business, for two people. The 50-50 raffle drawing will be held at this meeting. The Senior Citizens will be having their monthly meeting tomorrow, June 11 th, at 2:00 P.M. Membership dues are $5.00 for those 60 years and older. Meals on Wheels served at the Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday then cost you only $2.50 each. If you have any questions, phone 679-2265. The Seniors are holding their foot care and blood pressure clinic next Thursday, June 17 th, from 9:00 A.M. until noon. This Saturday, June 12 th, Melissa Jones will be hosting a baby shower at 3:00 for Trevor James, son of Michelle and Matt Ragan. This will be held at the home of Jarvis and LaVonne Jungling in Max. Everyone is welcome to come. This Sunday, June 13 th, there will be a benefit for Tim Splichal of Garrison. Tim married Kristin Haynes, daughter of Linda and Duwayne Haynes of Max, in October of 2003. Tim has cancer. Serving will be from 9:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the Garrison Auditorium. This special benefit for Tim is being sponsored by Garrison’s Church of God where Tim and Kristin are members. “Every new day begins with possibilities.
