Max News 1-24-05 Rita Semchenko of Max was the winner of Unique Treasure’s Open House drawing. Karla Erickson of Unique Treasures would like everyone to know that she is still open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. But with the weather, she advises you phone her first at 721-5563 to be sure she has made it into Max to open up. The youth in Max have been featured in both the Minot Daily newspaper and the Bismarck Tribune recently. The Minot Daily featured the opening of the Max Youth Center, stressing the need for adults to volunteer as supervisors the various evenings. Groups can also supervise the youth. Please contact Pat Hannegrefs, the Max City Auditor, at 679-2770 to set up a time for supervising, or if you have any questions. Activities offered at this center include foosball, pool, darts, X-Box video games and music. Youth from grades 6 though 12 are welcome and children in grades 3 through 5 can also come, if accompanied by an adult. There is no charge for enjoying the fun this youth center has to offer. The Max Girls’ Basketball team was featured in the Bismarck Tribune, applauding their 12-1 rating. They were listed in the poll ‘as receiving votes’. The girls hold the number one spot in District 10 and are expected to contend for the district championship. The Max Girls’ team is a seasoned group and has played together since playing varsity ball in the 8 th grade. This hopefully will be a special season for the community of Max. The girls have never been to a state girls basketball tournament and their coach, Alan Taylor, hasn’t coached a state tournament team since 1964, in Grafton. It is getting pretty exciting around Max and the girls hope to do something that no other Max girls team has done. Their only loss has been to Our Redeemer’s Christian School of Minot but they don’t plan to lose to them on their next game, February 7 th. They state they are actually looking forward to that one. And they will be expecting their community to be there to cheer them on, so let’s not let them down. They sure aren’t letting us down! Reminder: The Max Civic Center will be open for walking this Thursday, 27 th and Monday the 31 st. from 6:30 to 8:30. The February dates for walking are February 2, 4, 8, 10, 22, 23, 24, and 28 th from 6:30 to 8:30. Please note there will no walking time from February 14 th to the 20 th. Put these dates on your home calendar. On Sunday, February 13 th, the Max Firemen are having a breakfast to raise funds for fireworks to display during our Max Centennial Celebration in 2006. Don’t forget the first Centennial Planning meeting of this new year. This will be held February 20 th at 2:00 at the Civic Center. Take note: This is a Sunday afternoon. The Centennial souvenirs are still available and are pictured in full color on the Max web-site. www.maxnd.com At this date, there are only 16 full color Afghans left, with 24 already sold. It is nice to see the bare pavement again after many days of icy roads. One year ago this week we had minus 61 degree wind chills! “Ability is what you’re capable of doing.
