Max News 5-02-2005 On Tuesday Margaret Scurlock and Lila Fannik drove to Bismarck to attend the Miss Saigon Broadway Production at the Bismarck Civic Center, where Jeremy Meronuck, our grand nephew, plays Percussion in the show band. They spent the night with Nancy Meronuck. The following day we had brunch at the Green Mill with Jeremy, his Mom Janet Meronuck, his sister and husband, Gina and Barry Lee, and Nancy Meronuck. Margaret and Lila really enjoyed being together with them again. On Sunday, following the Confirmation service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Max, Roger and Grace Westman invited Lorna Sambor, Margaret Scurlock, and Lila Fannik over for dinner, along with many other relatives and friends. Coyla Varty of Bismarck, formerly of Douglas, celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday afternoon at the Douglas Senior Center. Lorna, Margaret, and Lila all attended. We grew up as neighbors and friends all our lives. We are also related to Coyla. Several ladies and young people attended the Bridal Shower for Sarah Barden on Saturday evening in Our Savior's Lutheran Church basement. Sarah will be marrying Adam Becker on May 28th. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Max. This coming Saturday, May 7th, is the celebration for Older Americans' Month at the Max Senior Citizen Center. Kyle's Greenhouse will be there, along with Max Centennial Souvenirs and Concordia Lutheran Ladies' quilts on sale inside. Donations would be appreciated for the bake sale and the rummage sale being held inside to help raise money for the Center. These activities will be from 9 to 4 P.M. Have you contacted Kathy at 679-2569 if you want your child to ride bike in the St. Judes Bike-a-thon being held Saturday also? Many Max citizens attended the City Council meeting Monday evening to discuss the cleaning up of yards in Max. It was decided to have a City-Wide Clean Up Day on Saturday, May 14th., starting at 9 A.M. Come to the Civic Center first. Even if you can only help for an hour or so, please come. If you need help cleaning up your yard, please call the Civic Center at 679-2770 and volunteers will come help you out. Sheets will be posted around town as to what items are not allowed at the City Landfill. Arrangements can be made for the disposal of those items. Tires and appliances may be disposed of but there is a fee for them. Remember, the whole City of Max is having their Centennial Celebration soon and we want to be clean, because we have "Company Coming!" Actually, we have "Company Coming" everyday with people passing our town on Highway 83 and turning in for various reasons. Let's look nice! Don't forget to come to Civic Club at 7:30 this coming Monday, May 9th. On Thursday, May 12th. is the school's Spring Concert at 7:30. On Friday, May 13th., the Senior Citizen's will hold their monthly meeting at 2:00. Monday, May 16th., the Centennial meeting will be held at 7:30. On Wednesday, May 18th, the Max School Kindergarten class will graduate at 10 A.M. at the school. This is always so precious to see! On Sunday, May 22nd., Max High School Seniors will graduate at 2:00. Monday, the 23rd. is the 8 o'clock Firemen's meeting, and then the Senior Citizen Potluck will be held on the 27th., at 6 P.M. Such a busy month! Mark these events on your calendar today! Thinking ahead to June, the Max Library will begin their Summer Reading on Wednesday, June first. Earlier than usual........the City Wide Yard Sale and Flea Market will be held on Saturday, June 4th. Contact the Centennial Cafe at 679-8268 or Karla Erickson at 679-2536 for more information.
