Max News 6-20-05 On Friday, June 10th, (actual birth date) Dan Flath celebrated his 90th birthday with a luncheon at the Stoney Inn, Garrison. Those in attendance were his daughter, Linda; niece, Ardis Rendahl Hoffer of Las Vegas, NV; and a great niece, Bonnie Hoffer Brinkley of Austin, TX. They enjoyed touring the Max and Garrison area during the day. Friday evening, Dan was treated to another birthday party at the Homesteader Restaurant in Minot. Those attending were, Wayne, Linda and Dan Felder, Kathy Schimitz, Ardis Hoffer, and Bonnie Brinkley. On Sunday, June 12th, Dan Flath's family hosted an open house at the Senior Citizen's Center in Max. It was a lovely day, and Dan thanks all for attending on his special day. On Tuesday, June 14th Bernice Iverson visited with Dan Flath and Linda Feldner at their home in Minot. The Sunnyslope Homemakers Club met on Tuesday, the 14th at Linda Krueger's home in Minot. Readings and discussions were held on the 'American Flag', and 'Freedom Isn't Free', as it was Flag Day that Tuesday. Monday evening the Centennial Planning Meeting was held, with 'a few over a dozen' in attendance. They need writers to help write out the histories that have come in on the forms. This will be quite simple to do, especially if you know the family. February first, 2006 is the deadline for getting all information and pictures in for the Centennial book. With this schedule, the completed book will be available for purchase May first, 2006. The Alumni book will be available for purchase soon afterwards. They need a 'cover design' for the Alumni book. The Centennial book will have the logo on it but a design for the cover of the Alumni book is needed. Of course advertising needs to be sold so if your business would like to advertise in either of the books, contact the Centennial committee. For any of the above, contact Edwin Schmidt at 679-2551 or Kathy Huettl at 529-4430. A request has come from Garrison for help during their evening dances. They need at least 8 people to help out at the 'entrances' to the dances. They will give our Centennial a boost, by $500. Contact Terry Gullickson at 679-2625 or Edwin Schmidt at 679-2551 if you are willing to help out. The Finance Committee reported they have received money from Land O Lakes and also from the gaming fund in Max. The Promotions Committee reported the T-shirts have arrived and are for sale at $15.00 each, no matter the size. Contact Linda Haynes at 679-2563. Caps are the next to be purchased. More long and short sleeve denim shirts have come. About 40 afghans have been sold and an order will be placed by the end of August to order more. If you are interested in having an afghan reserved for you, please contact Linda Haynes. All afghans must be paid for ahead of time. When the Alumni mailing goes out soon, there will be a complete listing, along with pictures, of all the souvenir items available and to be available, along with an order blank. Individuals, please check your abstract to see who previous owners of your home were and have those names put onto an 18 x 24 inch board that will be posted in front of your home, during the Centennial Celebration. Contact Edwin Schmidt about the type of board, and anyother questions you may have. It will be interesting to drive around in Max and see who lived in that house or lot in years gone by. The next Centennial meeting will be at 7:30 on July 18th at the Civic Center. This is also to be the Alumni meeting......7:30 on July 18th; Same place, same time! Winner of the Fundraiser drawing was Carter Myre of Minot. "Experience is what allows us to repeat our mistakes, only with more finesse!" Derwood Fincher
