Have you been to the corn maze north of Max yet? You will be amazed! And to think this was made by the youth in 4-H. They are a wonderful group of kids. Watch for an article on it elsewhere in today's paper.

Upcoming events are the topic of this week's news from our fair city, with two being held tomorrow, Friday the 13th. At 10:30 the preschool story hour for Halloween will be held at the Max City Library and at 2:00 the Max Senior Citizens will be having their October meeting, with election of officers.

Teachers Convention school vacation days are Thursday and Friday of next week, October 19th and 20th so if you have some leaves to be raked, windows to be cleaned, etc. give a student a call.

Karate class will be held at 3:30 on Friday the 20th., at the hall. You must be signed up to attend. Phone Lynae Schroeder at 679-2505 if you would still like to sign up. The following Friday the 27th. at 6:00 the Max Senior Citizens will be having their October potluck at the Center.

Then comes the annual Civic Club Steak Fry on Saturday evening, October 28th. Serving will be from 5-8 after which time the Nite Owls will be playing. Only 300 tickets will be sold. The proceeds from these tickets go to the Max Garrison Ambulance and Civic Club projects. We want to keep ambulance service in our community and these proceeds will help. Drawings will be held but you must be present to win.

The eating continues when the Max Catholic Church holds its Fall Festival on November 5th, serving breakfast and having a bake and craft sale.

A very good lunch will be served the following Sunday, November 12th, at the Max Civic Center when the Library holds its annual Book Fair. This lunch will be a benefit meal with the proceeds going to help with expenses for Arlette Iverson's husband, George.

This Book Fair on the 12th. is also a Flea Market and Vendor Fair. If you haven't reserved your table or tables, phone the library at 679-2263 or e-mail them at maxlib@restel.net. Each table is $10 and must be paid for the morning of the flea market.

More than 'several' vendors have already signed up to sell, and of course buy from your table!  The remainder of Book Fair week is busy with evening programs; there will be more details on these later.
