The 12 th Annual Dr. Pepper Plunge is officially over and the lucky winners are: Tom Hauf from Max, $500.00 cash; Shane Erickson from Minot, $250.00 cash; Ed Huffman from Max, $100 in Max Bucks; and splitting the $50 in Max Bucks are winners Dan Haugen and Joann Hauf, as they were tied in guessing the date and time the pop can would go into the water. Congratulations to all the winners.

The Max Centennial is getting closer every day and the first book commemorating this event has arrived. The Max Library’s Centennial Cookbook is here and available for purchase at the library or at the Cenex Station in Max. The cost is $15.00 and if you would like it mailed to you, please add another $5.00 for postage and packaging. Place your order through the Max Library, P.O. Box #116, Max, N.D. 58759-0116.

The April Centennial meeting is this coming Monday, April 17 th at 7:30 at the Civic Center. Only two more meetings after this one until the big event!

If anyone has addresses for former faculty members, please mail them to the Max Alumni Association at P.O. Box #81, Max, N.D. 58759-0081 or e-mail them to Joyce Malling at joyce.malling@sendit.nodak.edu. Better yet, bring them to the Centennial meeting if you are nearby.

And along with Centennial happenings, will be the parade. Need help deciding how to decorate your unit; are you thinking it will be hard to make a float; don’t know how much crepe paper etc. you’ll need…….. the answers are coming to Max on May 2 nd at 7:00 at the Civic Center!

Gene Veil, a longtime veteran parade guru from Mandan will be here that evening to help us. Many of you may know that Mandan has very beautiful Fourth of July parades every year – so come listen to what he has to say and show us, and help make our parade just as beautiful.

Gene will be bringing samples, prices and will be building a sample float, right in front of our eyes that evening, to demonstrate the simple procedure! There will be a time for questions and answers. And refreshments. The other towns in our area that are celebrating their centennials this summer are receiving invitations to attend this meeting too.

If you know what you plan to decorate, please bring along the sizes of the car, pickup, flatbeds, even vehicle door measurements if you plan to decorate only that. Gene will be able to advise you more accurately on your needs by having that information, and he will be able to help you with your float design. You may be able to place orders for supplies through him that evening, too. It would be helpful if several from each of the churches and businesses that plan to be in the parade, could attend this very informative meeting.

So don’t forget, Tuesday, May 2 nd. at 7:00 at the Max Civic Center, Gene Veil will be letting us all in on the secrets of decorating our parade entries so to make our parade chairman, Dwight Mack, proud!

Which brings me to our own DeeOn Mack making our town proud, by being nominated and receiving a Friend of Public Health Award. This award was presented to her on Wednesday, April 5 when the First District Health Unit held their open house and tour of their new building addition. This award is given annually to individuals and businesses or organizations that have been longtime advocates for the First District Health Unit. DeeOn was then interviewed by Channel #13 television and it aired that Wednesday evening. Congratulations, DeeOn!

Today, Thursday April 13 th. at 2:00 is the Max Senior Citizens’ meeting. Please remember to bring along a baby picture of you or your graduation picture. Only a few more weeks until Older Americans’ Day when Kyle’s Greenhouse will be here and many locally handmade wooden items will be for sale, along with the plants.
