Max News 4-17-06 There is a request for the large boxes that your appliances, like dryers, refrigerators, etc. come in. The Max Public Library would like to have a couple of these for the children to snuggle into and read during the summer reading program. The children will be decorating these boxes and then enjoying them during the Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales reading program. Call the Library at 679-2263 or Lynae Schroeder at 679-2505. Next Friday, April 28 th from 9 until 3 at Minot’s Comfort Inn, there will be a Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Enrollment Rally. They will help you sign up for the new Plan D so bring a list of your medications, dosages and current drug costs. You will receive help in determining which plan best meets your needs. North Dakota Senior Health Insurance program counselors will help each one of you enroll. Don’t miss this chance for confidential and individual assistance. You may also phone DeeOn or Dwight Mack at 679-2623 for information on any of the Plan D programs available. They can help you decide which plan is best for you and help you enroll. Remember, the deadline to sign up for a Medicare prescription drug plan is May 15 th. May 2 nd at 7:00 there will be a very informative meeting at the Max Civic Center, regarding designing and building the float your church, business, organization, class, or family plans to have in this summer’s Centennial parade. Gene Veil from Mandan will be bringing samples, prices, and will actually build a float in one hour, in our presence. He will then answer any of your questions and aid you in designing your float if you are in need of assistance. Please bring along the dimensions of the vehicle, flatbed, trailer, etc. you plan to use. There is no charge to attend this meeting. May 13 th is Older Americans Day at the Max Senior Center. Kyle’s Greenhouse will be there with plants and flowers to buy. And you should see all the beautiful wooden birdhouses, bird feeders, garden markers, and even indoor items our Seniors have been cutting out and painting. These will be for sale. Raffle tickets will be going on sale for an afghan, a queen size quilt, and a very unique two-story birdhouse! There was a tremendous Centennial meeting held this past Monday night. If you missed it, you missed a lot! Nearly three dozen people attended and heard how plans are being finalized for the three full days. There were a lot of oohs and aahs when we viewed the beautiful banners that will adorn our streets. Have you sent in your registration forms for the Alumni events; ordered your History book at the reduced price; purchased the Max Library’s Centennial cookbook available at the Library or Max Cenex; signed up to have a craft/etc. booth either inside or outside; if not, please do so soon. Contact Edwin Schmidt at 679-2551 if you want to have a craft/etc.(no food) booth and specify inside or outside. The inside spots are limited. The cost is $35 plus 5% of your earnings, no matter where you set up. This is for all three days; June 30, July 1 and 2. This Saturday, April 22 nd is a full day in Max with many volunteers needed to help clean up the city, the parks, and proof-read printouts for the History book. Sounds like a fun day, really. The more there to help, the quicker it goes and the more fun it is! For helping with the cleanup, meet at the hall at 9. The dump grounds will be open from 9 until noon. If you need help, please notify someone to come to your yard. For helping with the proof-reading, please come to the hall around 10:30 and stay as long as you can. Please bring red pens and hi-liters, if you have them on hand. There will be some there so please come even if you don’t have any of those items. The Alumni will be having a Silent Auction at the school during the Centennial to help raise funds for the new Nature Trail being built in Max. They could use donations of items worth $25.00 or more. Contact Joyce Malling at 679-2672 or at joyce.malling@sendit.nodak.edu if you have something to donate. If you are listing the former owners of the home you are presently living in, contact Edwin Schmidt for the sign form that will go in your yard. A suggestion was brought up by the Sunnyslope Homemakers Club of Max for each home to have an American flag flying, if possible. Each family will be responsible for doing that. Good news: 27 banners have been ordered; 3 members of the class of 1936 have registered; and a shuttle bus and golf carts are being checked into to help get around town. Watch for posters around town and watch the Minot Daily News, along with Channel #10 and #13’s Noon Shows. Keep watching! And be sure to attend the next Centennial planning meeting on the third Monday in May, the 15 th, at 7:30. You will be surprised at all that is happening!! Keep your eye on the Max website for the schedule of events and other important information on ‘everything’. www.maxnd.com “As long as you’re going to think anyway, think big.” Donald Trump
