Tomorrow, April 28 th from 9 until 3 is the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Enrollment Rally at Minot’s Comfort Inn. There will be help there to assist you in determining which plan best meets your needs and these North Dakota Senior Health Insurance program counselors can help each one of you enroll too. This assistance is confidential and done individually. There is no charge for this meeting. You may also phone DeeOn or Dwight Mack at 679-2623 for information and/or assistance in enrolling in Medicare’s Plan D. Remember, the deadline to sign up for a Medicare prescription drug plan is May 15 th. After that you will have to pay a penalty to sign up. Tomorrow, Friday, is also the Max Senior Citizens’ monthly potluck at 6 pm. Max Public School’s Junior/Senior Prom is Saturday night, April 29 th. The Grand March is always beautiful to watch. Thursday, May 4 th is National Day of Prayer across the nation. All Max churches have been asked to be open from 12 noon until 1 pm so that you may go there to pray for our nation during that hour or pray wherever you are at. The city’s noon whistle will be ‘calling us all to pray.’ Saturday, May 13 th is a busy day for many Max residences with weddings and other things going on. But it also Older Americans Day at the Max Senior Center and Kyle will be bringing his plants and flowers for us to buy, as he has done for so many years. This year there will be some special ‘home grown/made’ items for sale too. The seniors have been busy so be sure to come see what they have been up to! Raffles tickets for an afghan, a queen size quilt, and a two-story birdhouse will be sold that day also. The drawing will be during the Centennial Celebration. And of course there will be pie and coffee served and baked goods to buy to take home to have with your coffee there! All this fun will be taking place at the Max Senior Center on Main Street from 9 until 4 pm. The Max Public Library has their summer reading entitled “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales” all ready – are you ready? This will begin at the library on June 2 nd at 3 pm with Lynae Schroeder as director. To kick off the program we will be painting a “dog house”. On June 9 th at 2 pm Taube Art Museum will be here with a program in which children will be doing various crafts. You MUST RSVP for this event so that enough supplies are planned for. Please call the library at 679-2263 or Lynae at 679-2505 by May 31 st if attending this event. Other dates scheduled are June 16 th, July 7 th, and July 14 th all at 3 pm. This year’s picnic will be held on July 21 st at the City Park. Mark these dates on your calendar right now. Watch the Max News for additional information or call the library with any questions. Again, are you ready for Max’s Centennial celebration this June 30, July 1 and 2 nd? Is your alumni registration form sent in? Are you interested in the Max History book at its reduced rate? Are you having a craft booth and want to set it up inside? Better hurry with all of these. Do you have anything or know of any business or individual that could donate something worth $25 or more for the Alumni Silent Auction that will be held during the Centennial? These proceeds will help the new Nature Trail that is being built in Max. Contact Joyce Malling at 679-2672 or at joyce.malling@sendit.nodak.edu. The City of Max had half a page in a recent Minot Daily newspaper. Watch for Max to be featured on the television stations’ Noon Shows and who knows where else! Most importantly, and mark this on your calendar right now, come to the next Centennial planning meeting that will be held at 7:30 on Monday night, May 15 th. Max Farmer’s Elevator has four new concrete ‘bins’ going up. What a busy town we will be this summer! Hopefully there will be progress pictures on the Max web-site. “We know what a person thinks not when he tells us what he thinks, but by his actions.” Isaac Bashevis Singer
