Max News 5-22-06

Last week's news was very short so wasn't put on the web. The only thing in it that is still important, was asking anyone who knows anything about the Max Legion Auxillary to contact Kathy Huettl at 529-4430 or write her at P.O. Box 74; Douglas, ND 58735.

The Max community extends their sincere sympathy to Sheila Kendall and children in the loss of her husband, their father and grandfather, Mike. Mike passed away on May 17th. after being involved in a serious motorcycle accident a week earlier. Keep the family in your prayers.

The Summer Reading program begins next week on Friday, June 2 at 3 pm. The June 9th program will be held at 2 at the Library, with Taube Art Museum artists here helping the children with various crafts. You do need to RSVP for this so they bring enough supplies. Call the library at 679-2263 or Lynae Schroeder at 679-2505.

Sunday, June 4th from 2 to 4 pm there will be a bridal shower for Brandi Henne, fiancee of Chris Ellison of Garrison. This will be held in the Fellowship Room at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Max. St. Matthew's Lutheran Women's Missionary League will be holding a silent auction for a quilt at the Max Centennial celebration on Saturday, July 1.

The 84" x 96" quilt is made in a crazy quilt pattern with deep colors of gold, purple, red and turquoise. Each of the small crazy quilt pieces is outlined in an antique hand embroidered stitch.

The quilt will be on display at the Bremer Bank in Max prior to the celebration. The silent auction for the quilt will take place on Saturday, July 1 at St. Matthew's food stand at the Cossack Cuisine Food Court in the Civic Center. The bidding will end when the food court closes at approximately 4 pm on Saturday. The winner will be announced on Sunday afternoon following the afternoon program on Max's Main Street.

Proceeds from the silent auction for the quilt will be subsidized by Thrivent for Lutherans.

You may view this beautiful quilt on the Max web-site at www.maxnd.com .

The May Centennial Planning meeting was held a week ago but due to computer problems, it is now finally going to be on the web-site. There is another meeting on June 6th., a Tuesday, at 7:30. The Alumni meeting will be held at this time too, at the Civic Center. There isn't much time left now!

June 3rd, Saturday, has been set up as a "Kick Off" day to put the big beautiful banners up on the poles in town. If you want to work on this project anyother time, evenings etc., contact a few others and Doreen Malling at 679-2408. Otter Tail Power was to be contacted to help as these banners will be pretty high up on the poles so bucket trucks/tractors with scoops will be needed.

Funds are available to redo the 'patio area' between the Post Office and the Civic Center. You may work on that anytime, also. Or on June 3rd. Contact Jodi Gullickson.

Next Thursday, June 1st on Channel #13 the Max Centennial will be featured on the Noon Show. Don't forget to watch! And tell your friends and relatives elsewhere that get that channel.

If there is any alumni or anyone willing to play in a band during the parade, contact Joyce Malling at 679-2672. This band will not be marching in the parade. The parade will be Saturday morning at 10:30.

The Alumni are still looking for items worth $25 or more for their Silent Auction being held at the school. Proceeds from this go to pay for their new nature trail which will be ready for you to walk during the Centennial. .

Friday, Alumni Day, there will be a Teacher and Friends Social at the school from 3 to 5. This event hasn't been listed on the schedule.

Send your payment to Max Centennial; PO box #233; Max, ND 58759-0233. The books that are to be mailed out, most likely won't go until after the Centennial unless the books arrive earlier than expected.
