In last week's McLean County Independent there was a picture of the children taking part in the Taube Art Museum project at the Max Public Library. It was reported there were 140 children in attendance; the correct number of children was 14. Hopefully someday 140 children will become a part of the Max Library's programs.

On Sunday afternoon, July 2 following the Max Centennial Celebration, there will be a Memorial Service for LaDonna Irwin Hubsky at 4:00 at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Minot. Everyone is welcome. There will be a fellowship afterwards.

For the Centennial in Max, our Post Mistress Carmel will be having a special stamp cancellation. She will be set up throughout the day on Saturday for this. The Post Office has also made up large beautiful postcards with 3 old photos of Max. You will definitely want to purchase these, even if you don't plan on mailing them! Carmel will have those on hand also.

On this Friday, the 23rd., all seniors and anyothers who would like to help decorate the Senior Citizens' float, please meet at Margaret Scurlock's garage at 2 p.m. The seniors will then serve you a fine potluck meal at their Center at 6 p.m. that same day.

The final Centennial Celebration planning meeting was held on Monday evening, June 19th. Everything appears to be ready for a fun and memorable three-day celebration, starting Friday, June 30th at 10 a.m. with the Opening Ceremony on Main Street.

The Max History books are being printed and will be available. All 38 banners are up on the poles around town. So far there are 35 golf entries and some of those don't even play golf! But that is all a part of the fun. There will be winners drawn so you may win even if you aren't good at golf!

There is a need for items for the Memory Room at the school. If you have anything you'd like displayed, please bring it to the school as soon as you can. Those of you from further away may bring your items when you register on Friday, June 30th.

Travis Samson would appreciate anyone able, to help him with the garbage cleanup on Main Street during the celebration. He'll have the use of a 4-wheeler and cart but the full bags have to be removed from the barrels and clean bags put in. Contact Travis at 679-2522 for more information.

Watch for Max's Centennial to be advertised on KXMC television during the news at noon, 6 and 10 p.m. It should be on this week and next week.

Remember: Next Thursday evening, June 29th., is set-up night. Booths can be set up, tables and benches outside will be set up, Main Street will be blocked off, and so much more. Come help and get a head start on enjoying the celebration!

The next Centennial meeting, the Wrap-Up meeting, will be held on July 17th at 7:30 at the Civic Center.

Enjoy the Max Centennial! "Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can." Danny Kaye
