Max News 6-26-06 Centennial Celebration starts tomorrow, Friday, June 30. It is here! Weatherman says it will be in the 80's - perfect weather for walks/runs, golfing, parades, and just plain fun on Main Street. Don't miss it, you won't be around for the next centennial celebration. I would like to compliment Christina Jacobson and Carly Swanson on their very useful idea. You'll find their signs around town. They are offering to babysit, in the basement of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Max, from 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday evenings. They both have completed a babysitting course. You must call ahead of time to either Christina at 679-2246 or Carly at 679-2535. The Max Alumni are sponsoring a 5K fun walk or run on Saturday morning. Come to the new Centennial Park on Main Street to register between 8 and 8:30. The walk or run starts at 8:30. A free will offering will be taken for the Max Nature Trail. Sunday morning during the Centennial, the Max Baptist Church will be having a church service at 10. Coffee and fellowship time will be from 9 to 10, prior to the service. Thena Versolenko Bamber and her daughter Ruth Palnick will be singing and speaking at this service, among other specials. On Sunday afternoon, July 2, there will be a Memorial Service for LaDonna Irwin Hubsky at 4:00 at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Minot. Everyone is welcome. There will be a fellowship afterwards. Tonight, Thursday, everyone gather uptown to help set up benches, booths. tables, and whatever else that has to be set up, so when morning comes, the Centennial Celebration can begin with the Opening Ceremony on Main at 10 a.m. Once Max has celebrated its Centennial, life does go on, so they say, and there is evidence of that with the list of upcoming events growing. Friday, July 7th at 2:00 is July's Senior Citizens' meeting, instead of the 14th. Good News Club 5 Day Club will be meeting at the Max City Park from July 10 to 14th. at 10 a.m. This is being presented by Young People Trained Missionaries and sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Dakota. Bring a friend and your brother or sister to hear Bible stories, learn verses, sing choruses, play games and eat snacks that will be provided. Then July 17 - 21 from 9 to 1 Our Savior's Lutheran Church will be having Vacation Bible School for pre-schoolers through fifth graders. Call 679-2246 to pre-register If you have any information you would like put into this Max News column, you may leave it at Bremer Bank in Max in the "Max News" box or e-mail me at emz@rtc.coop once you are back home. I'll do my best to take pictures during the Centennial to put on an updated Max web-site, so stay tuned. Some celebrations have already taken place in Max. Ones I've been told about was a birthday gathering for Elaine Kohler at the Senior Center recently. Edie and Jeff Beskoon and family had to leave this week to go back to their home in Idaho but have been here enjoying being with family and friends. Grandpa Max Stolt will have an empty house again! Please extend your appreciation to our Postmistress Carmel for her after hour work of watering and weeding the flower bed in the new patio area west of the Post Office. There are alot of flowers on Main Street now that will need constant attention, after the Celebration is over, so if you can bend over, pull a weed or two. Thankyou! "Speak little,do much."
