Max News 8-7-06

This Friday, August 11th is the Senior Citizens' monthly meeting at 2:00 at the Max Senior Center. Then at 7:00 at the Max City Park is a Farewell Get-together for the Doan family. Everyone is welcome to come.

Visitors at the Bud and Gloria Henne home this summer have been Jim Steinhaus from Livermore, CA; Bonnie Knight from Great Falls, MT; Sharon and Duane Hanson from Thompson, ND; and Rodney, Rachel, and Gianna Bauch from Bainbridge Island, WA.

Alot of people have been wondering what the $13.50 maintenance charge is for on their water bills. This $13.50 goes into a fund so if the city has an emergency or an expensive project, this money can be used instead of increasing the property taxes.

With the Max Centennial celebration and Brandi Henne's wedding this summer, some others who have visited at the Bud and Gloria Henne home this summer have been Darell and Doris Tomlinson, Michelle Rosaager and her little son, all from Billings, MT. Others from Montana visiting have been Jim and Judy Bauch from Helena; Dustin, Stephanie, Colter and Cameron Bauch also from Helena.

Ruth Wolff and Sheryl Gonzales came from Billings to visit while Maratris and children Ethan and Abby Williams came from Great Falls MT. and Duane and Valerie Bauch came from Whitefish, MT.

Important: There is a program called CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) that is free of charge and will help us, as a community, learn how to take care of ourselves in case of an emergency - even one like Coleharbor has recently gone through.

This program educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills. Using their training, CERT members can assisst others in their neighborhood or workplace following a disaster and can take a more active role in preparing their community.

Our City Auditor needs to know if and how many people would like to take this training here in Max so she can have a class set up. Please call her at her office at 679-2770 to let her know you are interested. Again, this is all free, yet very important.

Last but not least, others visiting at Bud and Gloria Henne's have been Jo and Marshall Mills from Sorrento, BC; David and Cindy Allen of San Diego, CA; Peggy and Levi Johnson from Minot along with Terry Plesuk and Olga Henne also from Minot. Eric and Shar Hanson and family came from Fargo while the newlyweds Brandi and Chris Ellison of Grand Forks also visited, along with other immediate family members.

Notice: there is now a Drop Box in the open entryway of the Civic Center to leave your library books in. There is also a wall box there for you to pay your water and utility bills. This entryway is left open so you may leave your books or payments there anytime of the day or night.

The recent City-Wide Rummage Sales went quite well, according to the few I visited with. If you still have items to sell or want to make, keep in mind that the Max Library will again be having their Craft and Flea Market during their Library Week in November.

Monday night, August 14th at 7:30 is the Civic Club meeting at the Civic Center. If you like living in Max, get involved by coming to this meeting.
