Our community is in shock and very saddened by the death of Annie Rovenko. Annie passed away Friday after having major surgery a few days earlier. She was very well-known and very well-liked in our little community, a very giving person. Annie gave of her time and love with the Good News program that brought many children to her door. Her very productive garden by her home showed she was a very young 86 year old. Our deepest sympathy to all of her family.

Come celebrate life on Sunday, August 27th at 7 p.m. at the Max Baptist Church, when they have their Singspiration Service. At their most recent Singspiration Service, the church was nearly full and the service was terrific with music coming from duets, solos, guitars, and other means. This is all open to the public, to come enjoy and/or take part in. Just bring your music and share. If you have any questions, you may phone Lila Fannik at 679-2686. Rev. Allen Hathaway from Garrison will lead the service. Shhh-this day is also Lorna Sambor's 85th birthday and she'll be there!

The Sunnyslope Homemakers spent a wonderful afternoon on Tuesday at Tammy's Prairie Pines Bed and Breakfast, east of Max. This is in the former home of Paul and Erna Hauf. Five members came from Minot and four from Max were able to go and enjoy the lunch, tour, and meeting.

Larry Oiland from California came for the Douglas Centennial and enjoyed supper at Lila Fannik's on Saturday evening. Lorna Sambor and Margaret Scurlock were also there. They all really enjoyed the Douglas Centennial. Larry's father is Orvin Oiland, and along with Lila, Lorna, and Margaret, all are originally from Douglas.

The recent Max Senior Citizens' meeting was very well attended with 17 members present. Their August potluck supper will on the 25th at 6 p.m. at the Center.

If you haven't phoned the Max City Auditor, Dena, to let her know you are interested in taking part in the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class, please do so now. This free program will educate us about disaster preparedness and trains us in basic disaster response skills, such as were needed in Coleharbor recently. Dena's office number is 679-2770.
