Max News 8-21-06 Reminder: Max Senior Citizens' Potluck supper is tomorrow, Friday, at the center at 6:00. There may be a special speaker. The Max Baptist Church had a Back to School gathering on Sunday, August 20th. There were 34 children and adults enjoying supper, the story hour, and outdoor games. The weather was perfect and what a perfect way to show the children and their parents how important they are to the community. Don't forget to come to the Max Baptist Church this coming Sunday evening at 7:00 for their Singspiration service. The Rev. Allen Hathaway from Garrison will lead the service that promises to be full of music and testimonials. Contact Lila Fannik at 679-2686 if you have any questions about taking part in this service. Everyone is welcome to attend and take part. Remember - 7:00 this Sunday evening. Lloyd Johnson of Minot celebrated his 90th birthday party at the Velva Senior Citizens' Center this past Saturday. Lorna Sambor and Lila Fannik attended, while LaVonne Gullickson from Benedict brought Lloyd's cousins from Max to the celebration. These cousins are Harold Erlien, Leona Guttormson, and Inez Nelson. Here are a few more details on the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program that can be held in Max, without charge. Those attending will be taught how to use a fire extinquisher correctly, learn CPR, taught a form of light search and rescue like what was used in Coleharbor to see if there were any individuals in the ruined buildings, disaster psychology, and light basic disaster medical operations. If you aren't interested in knowing these things, to help out in the community if disaster strikes, how about knowing them to protect and aid your own family. Again, this is free. All you have to do is call our City Auditor at 679-2770 so she can have a class set up. This is for all ages - even those unable to help with physical needs. Other communities are being asked to sign up too so the trainers that come in will have a nice sized group to work with. Leif Morkfors from Sweden has contacted our City Auditor, looking for information on Gustaf Dahlin who lived and died in Max. He was born in 1908 and passed away in 1976. Gustaf (Gustav) is buried in the NE corner of the Max City Cemetery, along with his sister Agnes Rumynson and her husband Alvin. His other sister was Signe. If any of you have information on Gustaf or his sisters, please contact Margaret Zaderaka either at emz@rtc.coop or at 679-2459. The City Auditor has turned this over to me and some information has been sent back to Leif already. Thankyou! One for helping yourself, the other for helping others." Audrey Hepburn |
