There is so much sadness in the community of Max again. Not only did we lose our George Huettl, but now Mrs. Boedicker of Max has passed away, and then the community lost Edward Fannik. Mrs. Boedicker has a son David living in Max. Ed Fannik was born and raised on the family farm northeast of Max. We express our sympathy to Mrs Boedicker's family and to Ed's wife LaVonne and family.

Onto a happy note by telling you that our Ethel Boettcher will have her 95th. birthday this coming Sunday, October 21st. There will be coffee and cake at the Max Senior Center on Sunday afternoon to help her celebrate. Everyone is welcome.

North of Max is the Rocky Acres' Corn Maze. It will be open Saturday October 20th. from 7 to 10 p.m. This is Flashlight Night - so bring your own flashlight.

Saturday, October 27th, from 6 to 10 p.m. the Haunted Maze will be held. This haunted maze takes less than an hour to go through so people should have time to participate in both the steak fry and the maze. The Civic Club of Max is selling tickets to the annual steak fry, being held at the Max Civic Center. What a wonderful idea the Rocky Acres 4-H Club has come up with! Thankyou members!

Our Savior's Lutheran Youth Organization, LYO, is collecting used eyeglasses and has boxes for them at their church and also at Bremer Bank on Main Street in Max. October 31st. is the deadline for putting glasses in the boxes.

Jessica's Little Hoppers Daycare is open now! The school bus will pick up and drop off your school age kids at her door for you. Please call her at 679-2256 for more information.

This Sunday, October 21st. is Immaculate Conception Church's Annual Knoephla Soup and Sandwich Luncheon. They will be serving from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The handmade quilt presently on display in the bank will be raffled off.

Then on the same evening, October 27th., the Haunted Maze will be held north of Max by the Rocky Acres 4-H Club, and the Civic Club Annual Steak Fry and Dance will be held at the Civic Center from 5 to 8 p.m. The Nite Owls will play for the dance to follow. Only 300 tickets are being sold so get yours now!

And just think - we are almost into November at that point and the Community Library Book Fair Week will be upon us. Tables are still available to rent for the Flea Market and Vendor Fair being held on Sunday, November 18th. The Senior Citizens will be serving juice and freshly made muffins during the early hours and then for noon will be serving sloppy joes with coleslaw and other fixen's! The Seniors have been selling $1 tickets that could win you one of many expensive prizes. Those prizes will be drawn for at 2:00 p.m., with the Flea Market ending at 2:30. Call the Max Library at 679-2263 for more information on the evening events during the week and information on the Sunday event.

Don't forget to get your flu shot this fall. You will be able to get it at the Civic Center on Friday, October 19th. from 1:30 to 3:30. Bring your Medicare card. The cost will be $25.

The October potluck and meeting was held at the Max Senior Citizen Center on Friday, October 12th. Dwight and DeeOn Mack were available there to help you decide on a new plan 'D' or if you should keep your present one, for the medications you take. You may make an appointment with them by calling 679-2623. So if you are new to the Medicare program and have questions about Medicare Part D, or if you want to switch plans and need assistance call SHIC counselors Dwight and DeeOn Mack. The Seniors serving during the Library's Flea Market was discussed and workday to bake and do other things will be November 17th. starting around 10 a.m. If you can come for an hour or two, please come. The Seniors will be having a bake sale at this Flea Market so would like contributions for this, from the members or anyothers. Please price your food. Also, the Seniors will be having their own Flea Market table so items would be liked for that also. There, too, please put your price on them. Proceeds go to the Senior Center from both the bake sale and the flea market table.

Other business at the meeting was notice that the November meeting, on November 9th, will also be election day for Vice President and for Treasurer. Viola Gullickson wants to step down from her treasurer position. The following year the election will be for the President and Secretary. Nominations will be from the floor. Prior to this meeting, between the noon potluck and the 1:30 meeting, a speaker from Legal Services of North Dakota will be speaking on what is available for seniors. This is open to the public.

Christmas is coming but the Seniors are going to get a head start and have their Christmas Party, potluck, on Sunday December 9th. starting at 1:00. There will be a free-will offering.
