We extend our sympathy to Dolores Okins and family in the passing of her Mother, Gladys Haugen of Garrison.

Many brave souls attended the First Annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting this past Sunday evening. The word around town is that it was a very nice event. It started with a potluck, followed by readings about the real meaning of Christmas. While the bundled up ones gathered around the big outdoor tree in the Civic Center Courtyard, the tree lights were turned on and Christmas Carols were sung. Those who brought ornaments for the tree, then hung them up. It was very cold!! But it didn't dampen the beauty of the event. This event was sponsored by the Max Civic Club and Max City Council.

Now we have several Christmas events coming up in Max, starting with the Senior Citizens' Christmas Party on December 9th, starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center in Max. This is a potluck, with the sign-up sheet in the Center. Remember to bring wrapped gifts limited to $5 each for everyone you invite and for yourself. You will get one of these during the exchange game following the meal! A free will offering will be taken again this year.

Monday, December 10th is the Max Library's Story Hour at 10:30 and Max's Civic Club meeting at 7:30. That Friday, the 14th. is the December potluck with the meeting to follow, at the Senior Citizens' Center for all those 55 plus. Everyone is welcome to join.

This is another very important Monday, December 10th event! You are invited to come and join us for a Happy Birthday Party for Jesus. The party includes Christmas songs, candy cane games, and a fun Christmas story that tells the true meaning of Christmas. Todd Erickson, from Child Evangelism Fellowship, will lead the party and will bring along his special friend "Rex the Wonder Dog". This birthday party will be held at the Max First Baptist Church on Monday, December 10th from 3:30 until approximately 5:00 p.m. Please call Lila Fannik or Cindy Capp if more information is needed.

And "you know who" will soon be arriving in Max. Yes, Santa will have breakfast of pancakes and sausage with you from 9:30 to 11:30, at the Civic Center. Santa will have treat bags; there will be entertainment; horse drawn hay rides, and special door prizes. The McLean County Sheriff's office will have Mugs and Hugs so be sure to be there to have the very important picture taken of you. Get up early on Saturday, December 15th. so you can spend time with Santa! Santa Day is being sponsored by Bremer Bank AND Insurance.

A reminder that St. Matthew's Lutheran Church still has a box in Bremer Bank in Max for collecting caps, gloves, mittens, scarves, etc. to be given to many in the Velva School and in the Max School, and also to the McLean County Resource Center in Washburn. Please give! Thankyou!
