To all the Max-ites who have traveled to warmer weather - we are expected to have minus 60 degree wind chills this coming week-end! The high temperature alone will be below zero.
There was an organizational meeting Monday evening for a newly formed Book Club in Max. For more information, if you are a reader, phone Peggy Bingham at 679-2405.
The Max Senior Citizens' Center has Meals on Wheels served at noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays of each week. There is card playing on Sunday also. February 9th. will be their noon potluck with the meeting to follow at 2:00. Anyone is welcome to become a member and enjoy the center and all activities.
Watch for the pop can to go out on the ice! There will be a new sponsor for it this year so the prizes may be different also. We will keep you informed!
Winters can be long for some - would you like to help out little newborn babies? Several ladies in the Max community sew receiving blankets for these tiny 4# babies born in Honduras. Marla Eliason is the medical missionary that takes the supplies over with her. She will be going over on April 9th. We take the supply of baby items to her a week in advance. The blankets have only two layers, with no filler. They can be out of any fabric or combinations of fabrics - something smooth for the baby. If enough blankets aren't supplied, many babies have to go home wrapped in newspaper!
Marla also needs to take newborn clothing with her, like good used/new Onsies, booties/socks, caps, sweaters, etc. You may like to knit or crochet - any pattern or design will work - just make them small - almost sized for a doll. Babies weighing 4# aren't much bigger.
If anyone has any fabrics that could be used for these blankets - that you are willing to part with, please leave them at the Max Senior Citizen Center and they will go to the sew'ers from there. If you would like to sew, knit, or crochet blankets or other baby items, the only request Marla has is that they be small. The blankets should be no bigger than 36 inches square, preferably. Any of the above items may be left at the Max Senior Center. And if you have any questions on these items for Honduras, please phone Margaret Zaderaka at 679-2459.
Max karate classes are going great. The first group of students are getting ready to test for their first belt. We are now able to accept new students. Stop by and attend a class for free to see how you like it. Classes meet Fridays at 3:30 at the Max Civic Center. If you are 14 or older, stop by at 4:30 and ask about an adult class. Shifu Martin is looking for a teenager or two to train who would be interested in helping to teach the younger class as well.
