Max News 3-26-07

Unfortunately, there is alot of sad news to report tonight. Diane Wagner Cottingham, formerly of Max, passed away on Saturday. She graduated from Max High School in 1979 and married Dean Cottingham. They had two daughters and lived in Underwood. Our own Travis Wagner is her nephew. Her parents are Curtis and the late Wilma Wagner who farmed east of Max. Curtis now lives in Bismarck. Our sympathy to Diane's father Curtis and his families and to Diane's husband Dean, their two daughters, and family.

On Monday morning, Joy Lies' sister, Rosmond Lucken, passed away in Appleton, Wisconsin. Her twin sister, Rosale and her husband Chuck Alsbury also reside in Appleton. Our sympathy to our own Joy Lies and her family and to Eleanora Fliginger of Garrison, the girls' Mother.

On Monday afternoon the Mother of our City Man, DuWayne Haynes, passed away in a Minot Nursing Home at the age of 92. Kathrine Haynes lived in Lemmon, South Dakota before moving to North Dakota almost two years ago. Our sympathy to our own DuWayne Haynes and his family.

"Live each day as you would climb a mountain...Climb slowly, steadily, enjoying each passing moment; and the view from the summit will serve as a fitting climax for the journey." Harold V. Melchert

The recent Garrison-Max Ambulance District breakfast served in Max had a good turn out. Free blood pressure checkups were given and the community's ambulance was 'in attendance'. People were invited to go inside the ambulance and ride on the guerny into the ambulance, with the hope that if an adult or child would need to ride in an ambulance, they wouldn't be as scared. What a wonderful contribution to the event!

Coming up this Sunday, April 1, is the Immaculate Conception Church's spaghetti and meatball dinner from 11:30 to 1:30. This will be held at their church, one block north of Main Street in Max.

Other events happening in our community are the Max Public Library's Story Hour at 10:30 on Friday, March 30th. The Senior Citizens are having a special meeting at 2:00 on this Friday at the Senior Center. Karate Class will be held at 3:30 at the Civic Center this same Friday also.

I need to make a few corrections on the information I gave you last week regarding the labels, boxtops, etc. that the school children are collecting - or I should say, that you are collecting for them! The Our Family products' UPC label (pricing label with all the lines) is all they need from Our Family products. The little girl I mentioned being on the Campbelll products is announcing 'labels for education', not boxtops for education as I stated. And Boxtops for Education are being collected and are just that, boxtops, mostly, although you will see the same label on soft packaged food items also. Are you helping out the school children? Reminder; you may leave your labels of all styles in the Max News box that sits on the counter at Bremer Bank in Max and I will take them to the school for you although you may also deliver them yourselves and see how nice our school really is.

The weather has warmed up abit and the can is starting to lean - preparing for its 'plunge'. The cutoff date to purchase tickets is this Saturday, March 31st. at midnight, or before, if the can has already taken its 'plunge'!

Marian Schmidt, Vi Kostenko, Lila Fannik and Marge Scurlock took belated birthday wishes to Frances Spitanik recently. On Monday several gathered at the Centennial Cafe to celebrate Florene Knudtson's birthday with her.
