There was a surprise 70th. birthday dinner/party for Marlys Haugeberg Opheim in the evening on Wednesday, April 25th. in Bismarck. Those attending were Don and Carolyn Nett, Linda and Garry Wagner, Jen. and Al Meidinger, Sharon and Gary Moore and Joann and Donald Hauf.

Marge Scurlock, Lorna Sambor, and Lila Fannik enjoyed having lunch with Sherry Ritchie in her home last week.

Jim Hauf of Maplewood, MN visited at the home of his parents, Ed. and Idamae last week-end and joined fellow members of the 80's Zentry band for a band reunion concert in Minot on Saturday evening, to benefit the National Kidney Foundation.

On Sunday morning there was a special event at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Max, with the confirmation of Taylor Hauf, Granddaughter of Joann and Donald Hauf. There was dinner for everyone after the service. Taylor's parents, Grandparents, Great Grandparents, and extended family were all present.

On Sunday afternoon, April 22nd, the Max Senior Center was full of family and friends for Lila Fannik's 80th. birthday. Lila's daughter Virginia Sides from Stockbridge, Georgia came for her Mom's birthday. Lila's sister and brother-in-law, Alice and John Dvirnak of Killdeer came with birthday wishes, too. Lila's dear friend, Linda Feldner of Minot, cut the cake and Phyllis Narum, Lila's sister, served punch. Lila says it was a 'perfect day'!

Sunnyslope Homemakers Club met May 1st at Phyllis Narum's home in Douglas. Lila Fannik was hostess. They all enjoyed touring the Douglas Museum. Being it was May Day, each member brought a May Day basket for roll call.

Joann and Donald Hauf's son, Troy, of Minot, is presently in Siberia for a few weeks. Troy is foreman for Bourgault Industries in Minot and is teaching others to set up the no-till drills. Troy tells his parents it is 'an eye-opener' being over there. He finds the people are either well to do or poor, no inbetween. The farms are cooperataive farms. The seasons are very similar to North Dakota ones, although it is quite hot over there now. He is setting up machinery in a small village near Novosibirsk, Siberia.

You'll notice on bulletin boards around town, the announcement of a local Photo Contest. Either black and white or color photos will be judged and prizes awarded. This is for amateur photographers. Coming up soon is Older Americans' Day on May 12th. when Kyle's Greenhouse will be at the Senior Center, along with other things going on at the Center.
